CEHS is led by an Executive Board composed of four elected officers, three at-large members (elected), the executive director, and two ex-officio members: the editor(s) of Central European History and the director of the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC.

The Society’s day-to-day operations are managed by an executive director (currently, Anthony J. Steinhoff, associate professor of history at the Université du Québec à Montréal in Canada).  Per the Society’s by-laws, the executive director is appointed to a four-year term, which can be renewed once.  The executive director may be contacted via email using the address:  executivedirector@centraleuropeanhistory.org .

Elections for officers and at-large members are held electronically in February. The terms of office for all the executive board’s elected members begins on March 1.

CEHS is a tax-exempt, non-profit public charity [503 (c)(3)] that has been publicly incorporated in the state of North Carolina. In keeping with this status, it is governed by a set of by-laws that have been approved by the general membership.  The most recent version of these by-laws is available here. In addition, CEHS has approved a formal statement on conflicts of interest and an official policy regarding whistleblowers.
